Oh, I know how overwhelming this season can feel. Your baby needs you for almost everything, and there’s very little time to catch up. I hope you know that needing a little time for yourself doesn’t mean you love them any less.
You’re figuring out feeding, learning what their cries mean, and trying to get some sleep. Your relationship may feel different. Family members may have opinions you weren’t prepared for. That’s a lot to learn while you’re tired. You don’t have to have it all figured out already.
And somewhere in all of that, you still need to eat. You’d love a shower, or a few minutes when nobody is asking you for anything. I hope you get some of those ordinary comforts today. Not because they fix everything, but because you deserve them, too.
So much of this work happens in your head. Remembering, anticipating, wondering whether you’re doing enough. When every need seems to arrive at once, it can be hard to begin. I hope caring for your baby and yourself can be enough for now. The dishes and the messages can wait while you have lunch.
If someone can take responsibility for a meal or a turn with the baby, you can ask for the help you actually need. It doesn’t have to be the smallest favor you can think of.
And if there’s nobody available to take a turn, I won’t pretend it’s easy to find that time. Your needs still matter just as much. I hope more support becomes possible for you, and that today doesn’t have to be the measure of what every day will feel like.
If overwhelm keeps returning or makes everyday care difficult, tell your doctor or a mental health professional what your days are like.
You need to eat and shower, too
