Maybe today has been hard from the moment you woke up. Or maybe you were doing better a few hours ago, and now you’re struggling again. You can tell someone that much. You don’t have to understand the change before they can care about you.
I remember spending so much energy wondering whether I should say anything, when I really needed someone to know I was having a hard time. I wish I’d felt less guilty about asking again. Needing reassurance wasn’t something I had to apologize for.
You might be tired, sad, frustrated, worried, or not quite sure. If someone is there, maybe they can bring you food or stay with you for a while. You can talk about what’s hard, or talk about something else for a bit. You don’t have to spend the whole conversation explaining yourself.
And if they aren’t available, I know that can hurt, especially when it took so much to ask. It doesn’t mean you should have kept it to yourself. Some days need more support than one conversation or one person can offer.
A hard part of today doesn’t have to undo a moment that felt easier. If you find yourself laughing at something or enjoying a little company later, that can be real, too. And if today stays hard, it doesn’t tell you how tomorrow will feel.
I hope today includes a little care for you, too. Not after you’ve finished everything. While the laundry is still there, while the day is still messy, and while you’re still figuring out how you feel.
If days like this keep happening, you’re feeling low much of the time, or looking after yourself is becoming difficult, call your doctor. You don’t need to wait for your next routine visit.
Words you can send without explaining everything
